BUCKEYE, AZ : 1 killed, 2 injured when car crashes into tree in Buckeye on Thursday, 20th June 2024

A woman is dead, and two others are hospitalized after their vehicle crashed into a tree late Thursday night in Buckeye.

Around 10:15 p.m., a Buckeye police officer was patrolling the area near Verrado Way and Sunrise and witnessed a speeding Black Dodge Challenger run a stop sign. The officer attempted to pull over the 18-year-old driver, but he took off speeding. Police say the officer then lost sight of the vehicle.

A short time later, investigators say another officer saw the exact vehicle speeding near Verrado Way and Indian School Road without headlights. As officers searched for the vehicle, they found it had crashed into a nearby tree.

Authorities say a passenger, 18-year-old Yaritza Vasquez, died at the scene. Another passenger, a 15-year-old boy, and the driver were both hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
