A Blooming Prairie man and an Austin woman suffered injuries Wednesday evening when their two vehicles collided on icy roads late Wednesday afternoon, according to a report by the Minnesota State Patrol.

Larry Haberman, 44, of Blooming Prairie and Katy Reineking, 25, of Austin received non-life-threatening injuries in the crash that occurred shortly after 5:30 p.m., according to the report. A third individual — a 14-year-old boy, Haberman’s son, who was a passenger in Haberman’s car and who was not identified by name in the report — had no apparent injuried.

The crash occurred when Reineking, who as driving a 2009 Honda Accord and traveling north on Highway 218 near milepost 34, lost control of her car and spun on the roadway, the report says. Reineking’s car was then struck by Haberman’s car, a 2000 Ford Ranger. The road conditions were listed as “icy” at the time.

Reineking’s car was totaled and Haberman’s suffered “severe” damage in the accident, the report says.

Both Reineking and Haberman were transported by ambulance to the Owatonna Hospital, according to the report.

No alcohol was detected in the accident and everyone involved was wearing a seatbelt, the report says.

The Steele County Sheriff’s Office, the Blooming Prairie Fire Department and the Blooming Prairie Ambulance assisted the state patrol at the scene.

The accident was one of nearly a dozen on icy roads on Wednesday thus far reported by the state patrol. By Wednesday evening, the patrol was advising no unnecessary travel in south-central Minnesota. Heavy snow and high winds were resulting in zero visibility at times.
