Chico, CA : 72-year-old man dies in crash on Highway 32 Friday afternoon, August 5, 2016

A 72-year-old Chico man died Friday afternoon after a crash along Highway 32, at milepost 30.

His name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The man was driving a 1974 Dodge van eastbound at about 4:30 p.m. Friday when a pickup driven by Jordan Smead, 25, of Chico allegedly veered into the opposite lane and hit the van’s front end.

The press release from California Highway Patrol states that the reason for the collision is unknown. However, drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor.

Smead was taken to Enloe Medical Center with moderate injuries. A passenger, Janessa Morales, 21, of Chico, received major injuries and was also taken to Enloe. Javier Ramirez, 27, of San Jose, who was also in Smead’s car, would seek his own medical aid, the press release states.
