Lee, FL : Parrish man killed in crash on US 41 near the Tilted Kilt on Monday, July 7, 2014

One person died after a multi-vehicle crash in the northbound side of US 41 near the Tilted Kilt on Monday.

The driver of a 2012 Kia, David Michael Smith, 50, was unresponsive upon arrival of paramedics. Smith was pronounced deceased on scene, according to the Lee County Sheriff's Office.

According to LCSO, the office's Traffic Homicide Investigators responded to the scene.

During the course of the investigation, deputies determined that a 2007 Kia, driven by Tiffany Nichole Stinnett of Lehigh Acres, and a 2012 Kia, driven by David Smith of Parrish, Florida, were stopped in heavy northbound traffic.

A 2009 Nissan, driven by Joshua Michael Rinehart of North Port was traveling northbound on S. Tamiami Trail. The Nissan struck the rear bumper of the 2012 Kia, which subsequently struck the 2007 Kia.

The 2012 Kia and 2009 Nissan then moved past the 2007 Kia, coming to rest in the northbound lanes of Tamiami Trail.

Lee County Sheriff's Office deputies were on scene about two hours, where two northbound lanes were closed at 13985 S. Tamiami Trail.

Emergency crews were dispatched about 5:15 p.m.

A second crash was then reported near the first crash scene. In the second crash a car rear-ended a truck near the accident.

The Traffic Homicide Investigation is ongoing.
