Sunol, CA : One person died and multiple others injured in multivehicle crash on Highway 84 on Sunday January 3 2016.
At least one person died and multiple others were injured Sunday evening in a multivehicle crash on Highway 84 in unincorporated Alameda County, California Highway Patrol officials said.
Officers responded about 6:17 p.m. to westbound Highway 84 at the bottom of Pigeon Pass in Sunol, CHP Officer Damian Cistaro said. Authorities discovered that multiple people had been injured when at least three cars collided, and immediately pronounced one person dead at the scene.
Two helicopters were called to airlift at least two victims to Eden Medical Center, Cistaro said. Neither the exact number of victims nor the extent of their injuries was immediately known.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. All lanes of Highway 84 were closed about 7 p.m. so the medical helicopter could land, and reopened to traffic just after 10 p.m.
