COWLEY COUNTY, KS : 82-year-old Arkansas City man killed in Cowley County mower accident on Wednesday, 1st May 2024

An 82-year-old man from Arkansas City died from his injuries after a riding lawnmower overturned and pinned him on property near Winfield in the 13000 block of 212th Road.

The Cowley County Sheriff’s Office said George Hawkins was operating a Brush Hog mower in the north ditch when the mower’s front wheels “dug into the mud and (the mower) overturned onto Hawkins, pinning him to the ground.”

Winfield Fire/EMS and deputies from the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of an injury accident a little before 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 30. The sheriff’s office said several Good Samaritans stopped and called 911 but weren’t able to get the mower off of Hawkins.

The sheriff’s office said Hawkins died at the hospital.
