HAMPTON FALLS, NM : Woman escapes serious injury in scary I-95 crash on Monday, December 19th 2016
First responders said a woman was lucky to escape a car crash with minor injuries Monday after her sports utility vehicle went off Interstate 95 and was impaled by a guardrail.
The woman sustained no serious injuries after her Lincoln exited the northbound side of the highway at approximately 1 p.m. and drove into a guardrail, which tore into the vehicle, according to Hampton Falls Fire Deputy Chief Russ Davies.
Firefighters used the Jaws of Life hydraulic rescue tool to extricate the woman from the badly damaged car. She was then transported to a hospital for precautionary measures, Davies said. The crash took place at the 3.2 mile marker just north of the Route 88 overpass.
"It was a spectacular looking accident. Thank God no one was (seriously) injured," said Davies.
The right-hand lane was closed off while Hampton Falls fire, New Hampshire State Police and the state Department of Transportation responded.
Davies said it was unclear why the vehicle went off road. State police officials are investigating the crash. There was no immediate word on the cause.
