Marion County, FL : One woman dead and a man seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash at East SR 40 and SR 19 on Thursday night August 21st 2014
One woman was killed and a man seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash at East State Road 40 and State Road 19 late Thursday night.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers did not immediately release their names, pending notification of family members.
Troopers were told that a 2014 white Jeep Wrangler driven by Erin Rachel Robertson, was heading east on SR 40. A car, driven by the man with a woman as a passenger, was traveling south on SR 19.
At about 10 p.m., as the car entered the intersection, the Jeep struck it on the passenger side. Upon impact, both vehicles went off the road and onto the south shoulder of SR 40. They ended up about 30 yards apart on the edge of the woods.
Troopers said Marion County Fire Rescue firefighters had to remove the top of the car to extract the driver. He was taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center in serious condition.
The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
Troopers said Robertson, 22, was not injured. All three people were wearing their seat belts.
Robertson, who is visiting from Glenpool, Oklahoma, declined to comment. Troopers said she was on her way to DeLand when the accident happened.
At the time of the crash, the traffic signal at the intersection was flashing. The Jeep had a yellow flashing light, troopers said, and the car had a red flashing light. The intersection was dark at the time.
The investigation is on-going.
