DAVENPORT, FL : Husband dies, following wife's death in Davenport crash on Friday, November 11th 2016

A second person has died as the result of a traffic accident Friday afternoon on U.S. 27 north of Interstate 4.

Alfonso Diaz-Gomez, 77, of Winter Garden, died of his injuries after he was airlifted Friday to Orlando Regional Medical Center, according to a news release Sunday evening from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. His wife, Juana Diaz, 74, died at the scene of the wreck.

Diaz-Gomez had been driving a 1988 Chevy Silverado truck northbound on U.S. 27 with his wife as a passenger when a semi-truck with an attached flatbed trailer attempted to cross the highway from Richie Brother’s entrance-and-exit road to turn south onto the highway. Diaz-Gomez’s truck hit the trailer, then caught fire after impact.
