Weslaco,TX : Weslaco man involved in a morning crash on April, thursday 20th 2017
Charges are now pending for a Weslaco man involved in a Thursday morning crash that claimed the life of a local woman.
Sgt. Bernie Garza, spokesman for the Weslaco Police Department, said a 36-year-old man from Weslaco may be facing charges for the incident that occurred just after 7:25 a.m. Thursday on Expressway 83.
According to Garza, it was in the vicinity of the Westgate overpass in Weslaco where the man drove his vehicle onto the Expressway’s entrance ramp and crashed into Priscilla Ann Jimenez-Trejo’s car.
At the time, Garza said Jimenez-Trejo, a 42-year-old Mid-Valley resident, and her 11-year-old son had exited their vehicle after parking on the shoulder of the Expressway to observe damage sustained from an earlier accident, which police referred to as a fender bender between her vehicle and two others.
Drivers of the three vehicles involved in the earlier incident had parked on the shoulder to contact authorities and check their cars for damage. That’s when Garza said the second collision occurred, in which the 36-year-old’s vehicle veered right and crashed into Jimenez-Trejo’s car.
She died on the scene, and although initially reported to be in stable condition, her 11-year-old son suffered a fractured skull and remains in the intensive care unit at McAllen Medical Center.
“They got thrown into the concrete wall head-first,” Garza said, further noting that the left rear of the victim’s car straddled over the shoulder. “So she succumbed to her injuries there, and her son was doing OK but has taken a turn for the worse.”
The 36-year-old man was also hospitalized at McAllen Medical Center. Aside from one other motorist involved in the initial accident being treated and released from a local hospital, Garza said no other injuries have been reported.
Details are also still pending with regard to the nature of the charges anticipated.
