Vicksburg, MS : Alcorn State professor died in motorcycle crash on Highway 61 South in Vicksburg on Sunday morning, Oct 11, 2015
An Alcorn State University professor was struck and killed by a teenage driver while riding his motorcycle over the weekend.
On Sunday morning around 12:30 a.m., 50-year-old Dr. Noland Boyd was traveling south on Highway 61 when he was hit from behind by a car. He was ejected from the motorcycle and landed in the median.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the car that hit Boyd was identified as 17-year-old Kevin Williams, Jr. of Vicksburg.
Alcorn State released a statement from President Alfred Rankins Jr., who said that Boyd's presence will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
"Boyd was beloved by his students and a respected member of the Department of Chemistry and Physics," said Rankins. "We are sadden to hear of his passing. Our prayers and hearts are with his family."
The university says "the Alcorn family grieves with and extends heartfelt condolences to the Boyd family."
Boyd was an Associate Professor of Chemistry. He is survived by his wife Dr. Gwendolyn Boyd, also a faculty member at the university.
On Monday, Accident Reconstruction will take place with assistance from the Mississippi Highway Patrol to determine the cause of the crash.
