Ledyard,CT : Student-athlete at a Connecticut high school dies in crash on may, tuesday 9th 2017
A student-athlete at a Connecticut high school has been killed in a crash just a quarter-mile from his house.
Police say 16-year-old Ledyard High School sophomore Zackory Salomonson died when the pickup truck he was in left the roadway, struck a tree and rolled over on Tuesday afternoon. Salomonson was a sprinter on the school’s track team.
The driver, a 17-year-old student, climbed out of the crashed vehicle and was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
High school Principal Amanda Fagan says extra crisis counselors have been brought in to help classmates deal with the death.
Fagan told The Day of New London that Salomonson was a jokester, savvy with hands-on tasks, and his face and eyes lit up when he talked about track.
The crash remains under investigation.
