Camp Verde, AZ : Cornville man dies in morning accident near Camp Verde on Wednesday, November 30th 2016

A single-vehicle accident Nov.30 at 6:24 a.m. on SR 260, east of Camp Verde at milepost 230, took the life of a 52-year-old Cornville man, said Bart Graves, media specialist for Department of Public Safety.

Jose Luis Islas was pronounced deceased on scene.

Copper Canyon Fire and Medical Authority Battalion Chief Eric Strauss said units from stations 81 and 82, along with DPS and ADOT, responded to the scene and found a Jeep that carried two occupants rolled on to its side. The vehicle sustained heavy damage.

Graves said the 1974 Jeep was traveling west on SR 260 when the trailer it was pulling began to sway. This caused Islas, the driver, to lose control of the vehicle, explained Graves.

The Jeep rolled and ejected Islas, said DPS.

The passenger wasn’t ejected, said Graves, and was treated and released for minor injuries.
The Jeep was not equipped with seat belts. If used, said Graves, seat belts would likely have prevented serious injury or death.

The westbound lane of SR 260 was blocked due to the wreckage, said CCFMA, and the lane remained closed throughout the incident, reducing traffic to one lane.

DPS and ADOT remained on scene for investigation and traffic control.
