Dalhart, TX : One dead in fiery Hartley County crash on Friday, June 17, 2016
A crash involving two semi tractor-trailers has left one man dead and resulted in US 54 approximately 30 miles sound of Dalhart being closed more than 12 hours on Friday.
Trooper Cindy Barkley of the Texas Highway Patrol said workers tried to get one lane open for traffic by noon Friday, but the Hartley County highway had been closed since approximately 3:30 a.m. for Commercial Vehicle Enforcement troopers and DPS Highway Patrol investigators.
The highway finally reopened for traffic after 3:30 p.m. Friday, Barkley said.
One semi tractor-trailer was carrying aerosol cans of cooking spray and the other was hauling ham hocks, Barkley said. The truck with cooking spray caught fire and was completely destroyed, and the driver of that truck died in the accident.
The crash scene was not classified as a hazardous material incident, Barkley said. The health department, Hartley County Sheriff’s Office, Hartley County Fire Department and Hartley County Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene.
