Yakima, WA : 12-year-old girl injured in I-82 crash on Friday, 19th August, 2016

A 12-year-old Wapato girl was injured in an Interstate 82 single vehicle crash Friday afternoon near Sunnyside.

The girl was a passenger in a 2004 silver Mercury Mountaineer driven by Maria T. Torres, 34, of Wapato, when the left rear tire deflated causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and come to a rest on its side in the median. The crash occurred at 4:45 p.m. about three miles west of Sunnyside on eastbound I-82.

Torres was not hurt but the girl, who was not wearing a seat belt, was taken to Sunnyside Community Hospital. Her condition was not available.

Torres, who was wearing a seat belt, was cited for driving with wheels off roadway. Drugs or alcohol were not considered factors in the accident.
