Berryville, VA : Three involved in morning crash near Berryville on Tuesday morning, February 21, 2017
At least two people were injured in a crash this morning just south of the Berryville town limits, authorities said.
Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. F.L. "Les" Tyler said the crash was reported around 11:40 a.m. near the intersection of U.S. 340 and South Church Street.
Tyler said a 72-year-old Berryville woman had been driving a 2003 Dodge pickup truck north on 340 when she crossed the centerline and hit a Chevy SUV, which was heading south.
The driver of the Dodge was airlifted to Inova Fairfax Hospital, while the 29-year-old Dumfries woman driving the Chevy was taken to Winchester Medical Center, Tyler said.
Brian Lichty, director of Clarke County Fire, EMS and Emergency Management, said a child in the Chevy also was taken to Winchester Medical Center. He said the child was properly restrained in a child seat.
Rescue units from Enders, Boyce and Blue Ridge volunteer fire and rescue departments responded to the call and cut the driver of the Dakota out of the vehicle.
Virginia State troopers were also assisted by the Clarke County Sheriff's Office, Tyler said.
The helicopter was staged at D.G. Cooley Elementary School’s lower campus and took off around 12:45.
Tyler said no charges have been filed in the crash, which is still under investigation by Virginia State Police.
