Belton, SC : One person dead another was injured in a crash at Highway 76 On Saturday, July 16th, 2016
Troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said two pedestrians were struck in Anderson County early Saturday morning.
Troopers said the crash happened on Highway 76 near Belton at around 3:10 a.m.
The driver of a 2001 Ford Explorer struck two juvenile pedestrians from behind. The male juvenile was pronounced dead on scene, the female juvenile victim was transported the hospital.
The driver of the vehicle was not wearing a seat belt and was transported to AnMed Hospital. Four other people were inside the vehicle and none were injured, according to troopers.
The coroner identified the victim as Tristen Reese, 16. His 18-year-old sister suffered minor injuries.
The coroner said both teens were wearing dark clothing and the driver likely did not see them.
The coroner said the crash happened on Highway 178 near Amity Road.
The crash remains under investigation.
Tristen's step mother said the 16-year-old attended Westside High School.
According to police, Tristen and his sister were walking West from their Dad's home to another home in Homeland Park when they were hit from behind.
Police said no charges are expected in this case.
