RACINE, WI : Traffic light damaged in rollover crash on Tuesday, September 5, 2017

No one was reportedly hurt Thursday morning in a rollover crash at North Memorial Drive and State Street that sent a traffic signal crashing into the windshield of a Kia Optima.

The three-car crash occurred at about 11:40 a.m., said 27-year-old Trina Vinson.

Vinson, the driver of the Kia, said she was stopped in the south lane of State Street preparing to continue southeast on the roadway toward Downtown when the traffic signal fell over crashing into the passenger side of the windshield.

Vinson, who was not injured, said she was the only person in the car and couldn’t recall what happened.

“It all happened so fast,” she said, surveying the damage from the sidewalk.

A few feet away from the Kia, a Jeep Renegade was on its side. Its windshield had been knocked out by first responders to remove the driver.

The driver of the Jeep, 69-year-old Fritz Cape, who was apparently examined by paramedics on scene and then released, said he was heading north on State Street when the crash occurred but didn’t recall what happened.

The crash closed down traffic on North Memorial drive for about 30 minutes, and traffic on State Street was blocked for at least an hour, possibly more.

Speaking to Vinson, a Racine police officer said it might take a while to determine who was at fault in the crash.

Asked if anyone had been hurt, that same officer said “not as far as I know.”
