Fort Worth, TX : One person killed in wrong-way wreck on U.S. 81/287 Thursday night, May 12, 2016

One person was killed Thursday night in a two-vehicle wreck on U.S. 81/287 roughly one mile north of Farm Road 407.

DPS Trooper Robert Carson said a Honda Odyssey minivan and a GMC Sierra pickup collided at 10:20, with both sustaining heavy front-end damage after one crossed into oncoming traffic.

The driver of the minivan was declared dead at the scene by Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Craig Johnson at 10:40. That driver’s name has not been released. Carson said the other vehicle was driven by Michael King, 23, of Paris.

Carson said the cause of the wreck is still under investigation, with witnesses giving conflicting accounts of the collision. Investigators at the scene have reached different conclusions as to which vehicle actually crossed the median, he said.

Carson said King was coherent at the scene and was transported via ambulance to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth with several broken bones.

East Wise and Rhome fire departments and Wise County EMS responded to the scene.
