Moffat, TX : Austin woman critically injured in accident near Temple on Tuesday, April 5, 2016
A 22-year-old Austin woman was critically injured at about 1:04 p.m. Tuesday in a three-vehicle accident near the intersection of McGregor Park Road and State Highway 36, authorities said.
Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper D.L. Wilson said the woman was airlifted to Baylor Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple after she was extricated from the car.
Three vehicles were traveling westbound on SH 36. The driver of a passenger van slowed, turned on its blinker and prepared to turn left on McGregor Park Road. A vehicle behind it swerved and drove around it, causing a small Chevy vehicle to clip the back of the van, lose control and slide sideways into the path of an eastbound 18-wheeler, Wilson said.
The black Chevy was T-boned on the passenger side by the tractor-trailer, causing the car to cave inward and trap the woman.
The speed limit on that stretch of SH36 is 75 mph.
Assisting the Moffat Volunteer Fire Department were Temple Fire & Rescue with one engine crew, a deputy fire chief and Pechal, Scott & White EMS and the Bell County Sheriff’s Department.
