A Kannapolis man was killed and his wife seriously hurt in a crash in Rowan County Monday afternoon, according to troopers.
The accident happened around 2 p.m. on the 9000 block of Old Concord Road in Salisbury. The couple was riding in a 1958 Chevy Impala when a Honda Civic, traveling in the opposite direction, went off the right side of the road.
Investigators said the driver of the Civic then over-corrected, went left of the center line and struck the Chevy.
The man in the Chevy, identified as 67-year-old Jimmie Long, was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center where she was listed in critical but stable condition Monday evening.
The driver of the Honda, whose name has not been released, was taken to CMC-NorthEast with a broken clavicle and other injuries. The driver is being charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and careless and reckless driving.
