Austin, TX : Local man killed in crash along southbound I-35 on Wednesday, 28th September 2016
A 45-year-old San Marcos man was killed early Wednesday when the car he was a passenger in slammed into the back of a stopped 18-wheeler on Interstate 35.
Donald Eugene Wilson was prounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Joann Prado.
According to police, the tractor-trailer was headed southbound when it hit debris in the road that damaged its air brakes and had to pull over.
At approximately 2 a.m., it was hit by a black Lexus driven by Eric Edwin, 30, of Cibolo, with the collision sending debris across the southbound lanes. Edwin was taken to St. David’s Hospital in South Austin. In a news release, city spokesman Trey Hatt said Edwin was expected to recover.
The driver of the 18-wheeler, which was loaded with bottled water, was not hurt and the roadway was reopened to traffic in time for the morning rush hour.
Police said the stopped 18-wheeler had its emergency flashers activated at the time of the collision and the car that hit it left no skid marks. Northbound traffic was not affected.
Investigation continues by the San Marcos Police Department’s Accident Investigations Team. Assisting at the scene were Texas DPS Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement troopers and Kyle police.
