FORT MYERS, FL : Drunk driver crashes into Fort Myers home on February, Sunday 4th 2018

A 21-year-old man crashed his car into the side of an elderly woman's house while driving drunk through a small Fort Myers community, Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers arrested Garrett Nowlin at the scene and charged him with two counts of driving under the influence. They said he slammed into the home at Brookshire Bath and Tennis Club at 5:24 a.m. Sunday in a 2014 Kia.

Olivia Blank, a witness, said Nowlin came close to hitting her as she was walking her dog.

"I'm so thankful because I was not walking on a sidewalk and just within turning on that street. I was only one house down when it happened. So if it would've been 30 seconds earlier he could've hit me," Blank said.

Randy Sabau, Brookshire Bath and Tennis Club president, said people frequently use their streets as a shortcut in an irresponsible way.

Other neighbors made the same complaint.

"They come through here and most times don't even stop for the stop signs," said Paul Jones, a Brookshire Bath and Tennis Club resident.
