IONIA COUNTY, MI : Ionia I-96 reopened, 1 driver hospitalized after 'serious crash' in Ionia County on Thursday, 31st August 2023

An Ionia County crash shut down part of I-96 for several hours Thursday afternoon.

The sheriff's office says the crash happened on I-96 West near Hastings Road around 2:45 p.m.

Deputies say the vehicles involved, a car and a pickup truck, were entering a construction zone and approaching a zipper merge to get into the right lane.

They say the driver of the pickup told them they did not realize traffic was slowing down and rear ended a car.
