PHOENIX, AZ : 1 dead, 1 hospitalized after driver crashes into tree in Phoenix on Saturday, 17th August 2024

A teenager is dead, and another is injured after a driver crashed into a tree in west Phoenix early Saturday morning.

Around 4:15 a.m., Phoenix police responded to a collision near 59th Avenue and Thomas Road.

Officers arrived to find a 15-year-old girl and a teen boy trapped inside a vehicle.

Police say the vehicle was on its side and appeared to have gone off the road and collided with a tree.

The teens were pulled from the vehicle and taken to the hospital, where the girl later died. The boy is expected to survive.

According to police, the teen girl lost control of the vehicle while speeding down Encanto Boulevard. The car then went off the roadway, crashing into a chain link fence and a large tree.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
