A 25-year-old Powell Butte woman was killed early Saturday morning in a single vehicle crash on Powell Butte Highway.

Deschutes County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash at about 4:45 a.m. on Powell Butte Highway between McGrath Road and the weigh scales near Bend Airport, according to a release from the Sheriff’s Office.

Officers found the SUV, a gold 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer, on its top about 15 to 20 yards from the roadway. Samantha Goodew was unresponsive inside, the release said.

Deputies found the vehicle had extensive damage from rolling several times in the crash. Goodew was likely on her way home from work in Bend between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m., although it’s unknown exactly when the crash occurred.

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating more details, including whether speed, distracted driving, animals, drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

The highway was closed for about 90 minutes to clear debris and allow officers to investigate.
