TOLEDO, OH : Two dead after car crashes into Swan Creek on Friday, 1st March 2019

The bodies of two people have been found after a car crashed into Swan Creek Thursday night.It happened at about 9:00PM near Fries Ave. not far from the intersection of Airport Hwy. and Byrne Rd. Witnesses called 911 after spotting a car upside down in the creek.

A spokesperson for the Toledo Fire and Rescue Department tells 13abc the car crashed through a guard rail, went airborne and then landed in about 8 feet of water.

According to Toledo Firefighters, the water was dark and the fast current created challenges for the dive team. They suspended the search late Thursday night when they could not find a victim more than three hours in and determined it would be safer to return in the morning to continue the search and recovery.

According to Lt. Toney, police officers were conducting an investigation into who might have been in the car when they were called back to the scene early Friday morning. According to a family member of one of the victims, that call was made after they discovered a shoe in the water.
