Topeka,KS : Maple Hill man, 58, killed in Wabaunsee County accident involving train on April, Friday 27th 2018
A Maple Hill man was killed early Friday evening in an accident involving a railroad train about two and a half miles northeast of Maple Hill in Wabaunsee County, the Kansas Highway Patrol reported.
David W. Miller, 58, was pronounced dead at the scene of an accident that occurred about 6:02 p.m. on Willard Road just north of Bouchey Road, according to a highway patrol accident report.
The report indicated Miller was driving a 2017 Ford F-150 pickup truck northbound on Willard Road when a trailer he was pulling became detached on the railroad tracks and Miller got out of his truck to try to reattach it.
A Union Pacific Railroad locomotive driven by Ryan L. Idleman, 41, of Manhattan, then came around a curve and struck Miller’s vehicle as well as Miller, who was trying to get back into the unoccupied truck, the report said.
Idleman and the train’s conductor Jonathon B. Sheppard, 32, of Herington, weren’t hurt, the report said.
