A woman is dead following a two-car collision in western Monroe County Saturday afternoon.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, the female driver, who was in her 70s, was traveling east in a 2005 Ford Focus on Route 31 in Sweden when she crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic and struck another vehicle, a 2011 Honda CR-V, head-on just before 4:30 p.m.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, just west of Route 260. The three people in the other vehicle, including driver John Dick, 55, of Albion, Orleans County, suffered minor injuries, deputies said.
They were transported to Strong Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
Sheriff's Office Cpl. John Helfer, a spokesman for the office, said it appears the woman "went off the roadway, over-corrected, then struck the other vehicle."
The identity of the female driver is being withheld pending notification of her family.
