Edmond, OK : 14-year-old boy dies in UTV crash in Guthrie on Saturday, March 18, 2017

A 14-year-old Edmond boy was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 10 a.m. Saturday following a Logan County collision involving a utility task vehicle.

The crash occurred on Simpson Road eastbound 200 feet west of Kelly Avenue in Guthrie, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The driver of the Polaris Ranger involved in the crash was a white female, 13, of Edmond. She was not injured.

Another 14-year-old passenger from Edmond was transported by Oak Cliff Fire Department to OU Children’s Medical Center in Oklahoma City, OHP reported. He was admitted in good condition with arm, leg and head injuries.

“(The vehicle) was eastbound on Simpson Road. For an unknown reason, (the Polaris Ranger) departed the roadway to the right, struck an embankment and rolled an unknown number of times,” OHP stated.

The deceased boy was ejected from the vehicle and pinned underneath it before being freed by witnesses on scene, the OHP reported. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

OHP reported the cause of the collision was an inexperienced driver. Her condition was normal.

“This report is based upon the trooper’s investigation of this collision. It may contain the opinion of the trooper,” OHP stated.
