PITTSBURGH, PA : 2 women in fatal wrong-way crash in Pittsburgh identified on April, Thursday 6th 2017
Authorities have identified two women killed in a crash on one of Pittsburgh’s busiest highways, but still aren’t sure why one of them was driving in the wrong direction at the time.
Police believe that woman, 24-year-old Sidney Cope, of Coraopolis (kor-ee-AH’-poh-lus), entered Route 28 incorrectly and drove outbound from the city on the highway’s inbound lanes. That causes her to collide with a car driven by another 24-year-old woman, Clara Roberts.
Robert was from Indiana, Pennsylvania, about 45 miles away, and was driving into the city on her way to Pittsburgh International Airport. She had planned to fly to her home state of Texas to visit family.
Instead, their cars collided head-on shortly after 3:30 a.m. Thursday. Both died at nearby Allegheny General Hospital.
