DICKENSON Co, VA : Dickenson County man killed in single-car crash on Saturday, 23rd February 2019

An 83-year-old Dickenson County man was killed in a single-vehicle accident on Saturday morning.

The crash occurred at 10 a.m. on Feb. 23 on Route 80, less than a mile east of Route 671, according to a release from Virginia State Police.

A 2006 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck was traveling west on Route 80 when the driver driver lost control as the vehicle began to hydroplane. The truck ran off the left side of the highway, struck a tree and flipped over an embankment. It came to rest in a river upside with the driver still trapped inside, the release stated.

The driver, Homer W. Deel, 82, of Bee, Va., died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.

The crash remains under investigation, according to police.
