MEMPHIS, TN : A man is behind bars accused of hitting and killing a pedestrian on Wednesday, August 9, 2017

A man is behind bars accused of hitting and killing a pedestrian Wednesday night.

Memphis Police Department said Taurus Cooper was driving under the influence when he crashed into a man standing at the corner of Breedlove Street and Vollintine Avenue.

The victim was taken to Regional Medical Center where he later died.

Cooper, who was also driving with a suspended license, did not stop to help the man he'd hit, according to investigators.

Cooper is due in court Friday.
