Aspinwall,PA : Father, son killed in Moon Township crash near Robert Morris identified on October, Tuesday 3rd 2017

A father and son died in a two-vehicle crash near Robert Morris University on Tuesday morning, Moon Township police said.

They were identified as Albert Wilkinson, 55, of Coraopolis and Samuel Wilkinson, 86, of Findlay Township by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office.

The crash happened about 10:15 a.m. at the intersection of Moon Plaza and University Boulevard.

According to preliminary investigation, Samuel Wilkinson was driving a sedan that was struck by an SUV coming up a hill in the curb lane as Wilkinson attempted to make a left turn into Moon Plaza.

The driver of the SUV was a woman whose name was not released.

Moon police said the impact of the collision caused the SUV to roll over and the sedan to catch fire. Robert Morris University police were able to put the fire out.

The men and woman were trapped inside their vehicles and had to be extricated, Moon police said.

Albert Wilkinson, who was a passenger in the sedan, died at the scene.

Samuel Wilkinson and the driver of the SUV were taken to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, where Samuel Wilkinson died, the medical examiner's office said.

The woman's injuries are not considered life threatening, police said.

Both men weren't wearing seat belts, the medical examiner said.

The incident, which was caught on video, is being investigated by the Moon Township Police Special Investigations Unit.
