Lubbock,TX : Lubbock County constable charged with DWI after crash with parked cars on May, Sunday 6th 2018
A Lubbock County constable was charged with driving while intoxicated after a crash in which police say he struck two parked cars early Sunday in the 5400 block of 50th Street.
Carelton Jenson Peterson, the Lubbock County Constable for Precinct 4, was arrested following the crash that happened about 3:39 a.m. near the King David Trails apartment complex, according to Lubbock police.
A witness at the scene told police he observed a white pickup truck “flying” west on 50th Street, then heard a loud boom as the truck hit a curb. He turned around and saw the truck drive into a parking lot and strike two parked vehicles.
Police administered a standardized field sobriety test to Peterson, but the police report states police were unable to finish the test because Peterson said he wanted to terminate the test, stating that his knees hurt.
After Peterson refused a blood test, a blood search warrant was completed at University Medical Center.
Peterson’s truck, a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado, was towed from the scene. Two additional vehicles, a 2001 Kia and a 2007 Chevrolet, were also towed because they were not driveable following the crash, according to the police report.
According to a 2016 A-J article, Peterson was first elected as constable in 2014. He told A-J Media that his campaign strategy in 2016 was about experience as he headed into a runoff election.
