Lynchburg, VA : Woman injured in Bedford wreck identified on Sunday, February 19th 2017

Virginia State Police have identified the person injured in a Bedford County wreck on Sunday afternoon.

Joyce Carter Martin, 68, of Lynchburg was driving a 2012 Honda CR-V on U.S. 221 when her car overturned, police said.

The car ran off the right side of the road just south of Virginia 644, struck an embankment and overturned, according to State Police Sgt. Richard Garletts.Police believe Martin had a medical emergency. According to the Bedford Volunteer Fire Department’s Facebook page she was airlifted to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

The vehicle rolled multiple times, partially ejecting a single passenger, the post said. Crews worked to stabilize and lift the vehicle off the patient, who was then transported to the hospital, the post said.

Garletts said police do not know her current condition and would not release further details.
