Springfield, IL : 3 killed, 1 seriously injured in crash on Eisenhower on Tuesday, January 17th 2017
Three people died and another was seriously injured when a car crashed on the Eisenhower Expressway early Tuesday, according to Illinois State Police.
The crash happened about 2:15 a.m. in the outbound lanes of the expressway near Western Avenue, police said.Two people were pronounced dead at the scene. Two others were taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition. One of them was pronounced dead there.
One of the people who died was identified by the medical examiner as Henry Brooks, 41, of the 200 block of North Kolmar Avenue. Release of the other names was pending notification of relatives.
The Buick LaCrosse carrying four people was traveling west on the outbound Eisenhower about 100 feet west of the Western Avenue exit when it left the roadway and traveled up an embankment, crashing into a traffic sign support.
The 41-year-old driver was thrown from the vehicle, while the other three passengers died inside the wrecked car, Falcone said.
The driver, who was critically injured and taken to Stroger Hospital, is the wreck’s sole survivor, authorities said. The victims killed initially were identified only as two 41-year-old men and a 28-year-old woman.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified one of the victims as Henry Brooks, 41, of the 200 block of North Kolmar Avenue.
