Decatur, AL : Ambulance involved in collision on W. Moulton Street in Decatur on Saturday afternoon, July 9, 2016

Two people aboard an ambulance en route to an emergency call were treated following a three-vehicle wreck at West Moulton Street and Memorial Drive Southwest on Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

A First Response ambulance traveling west on Moulton Street with its lights and sirens on collided with an SUV traveling south on Memorial Drive before 1 p.m. outside the Family Dollar store, Decatur police said.

No patients were in the ambulance that was traveling to a call at Jay Landings Marina, said Sgt. Chris Moffett, of the DPD traffic division.

No serious injuries were reported and the two workers were only treated as a precaution, which is protocol for anyone on-duty, Decatur Fire Lt. Chris Bracken said.

Police said the SUV and ambulance appeared to be totaled.

Moffett said the SUV continued through a green light although the ambulance was approaching.

A third car, in the east bound lanes of Moulton Street, also was damaged in the collision, Moffett said.

Moffett said he wasn’t sure how many occupants were in the two vehicles. The names of those involved weren't immediately available.

Traffic briefly was avoiding the intersection by rerouting through the store parking lot.

No further details were available.
