Wichita, KS : Shawnee woman killed when car collides with semi near Wichita on Kansas Turnpike on Wednesday afternoon, September 21, 2016

A woman was killed Wednesday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 35 on the Kansas Turnpike, about 8 miles north of Wichita, authorities said.

The crash was reported at 12:35 p.m. in the southbound lanes of traffic.

According to the Kansas Turnpike Authority, the crash occurred when a 2002 Saturn VUE that was driven by Luvenia Bovi, 50, of Shawnee, pulled out into traffic from the right shoulder.

The turnpike authority said the Saturn collided in the right lane of traffic with a 1999 Freightliner semi-trailer.

After the collision, both vehicles ended up in the right ditch, the turnpike authority said.

Bovi was transported to an area hospital and was pronounced dead.

The semi driver, Gerardo Treto, 41, of Wichita, was reported uninjured.

Both drivers were alone in their vehicles, and the turnpike authority said both were wearing their seat belts.
