Statenville, GA : Lake Park man killed in Echols wreck on Saturday morning, August 6, 2016
A Lake Park man was killed Saturday morning in Echols County in an automobile accident, according to the state patrol.
Around 8:45 a.m., the Georgia State Patrol responded to a one-vehicle accident on Ga. 135 about two miles north of Ga. 94 in Echols County, according to Cpl. Chris Kelch of the GSP.
A 2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo driven by Kendrick Demetrius Spencer, 28, of Lake Park, was heading south on Ga. 135 attempting to negotiate a curve, he said.
The car left the road and hit a dirt embankment before overturning in a ditch, winding up on its top on the east shoulder of the road, Kelch said.
The vehicle was partially submerged in water, he said. Spencer was declared dead on the scene, Kelch said.
“Its pretty indicative that he drowned,” Echols County Coroner Alan Leonard said.
Spencer was restrained and airbags did deploy, he said.
A toxicology report is pending and next of kin has been notified, Kelch said.
