State police are investigating a crash on Interstate 87 that killed one person after the driver fell asleep at the wheel.
A Toyota Highlander was headed north on I-87 in the town of Moreau on Sunday morning when the driver fell asleep at the wheel, police said. The car went off the left side of the road, then back onto the road and flipped over several times. One person was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, police said.
The incident happened around 9 a.m. on Sunday. The driver and other passengers were treated at the scene for non-life threatening injuries. Four people were taken to Saratoga Hospital with minor injuries, while one person was airlifted to Albany Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
Several emergency crews responded to the scene, including the New York State Police at Wilton, Moreau EMS, South Glens Falls Fire, Wilton Fire and Wilton EMS.
The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed as of Sunday evening. No names are being released until the family of the victim is notified, police said.
