An Abingdon woman died Wednesday morning after ignoring a stop sign and getting hit by a pickup truck, according to the Illinois State Police.
Katelyn A. Katzell, 21, died later from injuries in the Warren County crash, police said.
About 7:50 a.m., Katzell was westbound on 245th Avenue in a small sedan as she approached 120th Street, police said. She failed to stop at a posted stop sign, entering the intersection and into the path of a southbound pickup, police said. The pickup hit the sedan’s front corner, the impact blasting both vehicles out of the intersection, police said.
Both drivers were transported to OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg. Katzell, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died of her injuries, police said. The pickup’s driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, had only minor injuries; he was treated and released, police said.
No charges were filed.
