BUCKS LAKE, CA : Man dies in Bucks Lake crash on Tuesday, 3rd September 2019

A man died Monday in the area of Bucks Lake Road after his truck crashed into multiple trees.

The man was identified as David Byron Mathauser, 60, of Richvale, according to a press release issued Tuesday by the California Highway Patrol.

Mathauser was driving a 2014 Dodge Ram 2500 westbound on Bucks Lake Road at high speeds, the release said. He was believed to be heading back to his cabin at Big Creek Road when the truck began to drift off the road.

Officers believe Mathauser over-corrected more than once, causing the truck to go off the road where it bounced off of one fir tree into a second, causing airbags to deploy.

Mathauser was pinned in by the tree and died of his injuries on the scene.

Prior to the crash, he was leaving the Lakeshore Resort where he hit a parked vehicle but continued on, the release said.
