Mansfield, OH : One person dead after Ohio 545 fatal crash on Wednesday morning July 2nd 2014

The Mansfield post of the Ohio Highway Patrol is investigating a Wednesday morning fatal crash on Ohio 545 near Piper Road.

The crash involved a 1999 Hyundai Elantra being driven by a man, according to the patrol. The Elantra was traveling south on Ohio 545 and traveled across the center line after exiting a curve. Evidence at the scene indicates the driver over-corrected, causing the vehicle to go off the west edge of the road, strike a utility pole, overturn and catch fire, according to the patrol’s news release.

The one-vehicle crash occurred at 3:53 a.m. Wednesday in Madison Township, according to the patrol.

The crash remains under investigation, and the driver’s information is not being released at this time.

Madison Township Fire Department, Richland County Sheriff’s Office and the Richland County coroner assisted troopers at the scene.
