One person was killed and four others were seriously injured in two-car head-on crash in Weirsdale

One person was killed and four others were seriously injured Friday night in a two-car head-on crash in Weirsdale that blocked traffic in both directions on two-lane County Road 42, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP troopers said a white 2007 Nissan Altima with three occupants was headed west on C.R. 42 while another white car with two occupants was headed east, also on C.R. 42.

Troopers said the Altima crossed the center line and into the path of the other vehicle, striking it head-on.

A woman driver of the Altima and two male passengers were taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. The male driver of the other vehicle died at the scene while a female passenger in that vehicle was also taken to Ocala Regional with serious injuries.

The crash occurred at about 8:14 p.m. at the intersection of Southeast 207th Court and C.R. 42, FHP said. The names of the accident victims had not been released late Friday pending notification of next of kin.

Both eastbound and westbound traffic on C.R. 42 was blocked as troopers investigated the crash.
