Newark, OH : Elderly woman struck and killed by a car in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart store, east of Columbus on Friday morning, April 22, 2016

Police say an elderly woman has been struck and killed by a car in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart store in central Ohio.

The woman has been identified as 76-year-old Carol Jones of Newark. She was pronounced dead at the scene late Friday morning.

Newark police say Jones was struck by a 34-year-old Newark man who was driving in reverse at a high rate of speed through a Wal-Mart parking lot in Newark, about 40 miles east of Columbus. Police say the man hit two cars after striking Jones.

Witnesses told police the man was driving erratically. He was taken to a hospital.

Police haven't said whether the 34-year-old would be charged criminally.
