Pedestrian killed on I-95 Sunday in Rhode Island
Another pedestrian has been struck and killed on I-95, the latest in a series of four pedestrian deaths on the highway in the last month.
Police say Emmanuel Martinez, 25, of Providence was struck and killed in the early morning hours Sunday.Conner Forsythe of Hope was charged with driving under the influence resulting in death after striking Martinez in the I-95 south in Pawtucket. Sgt. Michael Reynolds of the Rhode Island State Police said there doesn't appear to be a common thread among the recent accidents involving pedestrians on the highway. One of the victims was thought to be a grafitti artist, but the others were there for various reasons.
"All of the accidents have been somewhat different," Reynolds told WPRO's Gene Valicenti on Monday.Martinez was declared dead at the scene.Police report a call at 4:40 a.m. of a man in dark clothing along the highway. A second call reported he was lying in the highway. A third caller said he struck what he believed was debris.Forsythe is in custody pending a bail hearing on Monday. It was not known Sunday if he is represented by a lawyer.Reynolds cautioned others thinking of walking the highways, especially at night."It's not a smart thing to do," he said.
