Soldotna, AK : Kenai woman killed in Bridge Access crash on Tuesday night, December 29, 2015

A Kenai woman died Tuesday night in a two-vehicle crash on Bridge Access Road.

Kenai Police Chief Gus Sandahl said his department and Kenai Fire responded to the accident just south of the bridge around 9:23 p.m. on Tuesday. A Chevy Suburban crossed into the opposite lane and collided with a Ford Taurus, then rolled into a ditch, killing the driver 31-year-old Ruth Holliday. She and the driver of the Taurus were the only people involved in the crash, Sandahl said.

“The Chevy Suburban was southbound on Bridge Access Road,” Sandahl said. “The roads were not icy, so road conditions were not a factor. The cause is still under investigation.”

Kenai police will not release the name of the other driver, a 39-year-old man from Kenai, out of respect for the situation, Sandahl said. The man was taken to Central Peninsula Hospital for non-life threatening injuries, he said.

Central Emergency Services, Nikiski Fire and Alaska State Troopers assisted with the accident and investigation, Sandahl said. Troopers helped with scene documentation and notifying the family, he said.

Bridge Access Road between the accident and the Kalifornsky-Beach Road intersection reopened just before 2 a.m. on Wednesday, he said.
