Kearny, NJ : Car Strikes, Kills Man Exchanging Info With Motorist on New Jersey Roadway on Friday, January 2, 2015
A 62-year-old Jersey City man died this morning when he was struck by a passing vehicle on County Road 508/Harrison Avenue in Kearny, according to Kearny police.
Around 6:19 a.m., the 62-year-old, who was driving a Hyundai Santa Fe, swiped the rear of a box truck that was disabled in the westbound lane with his vehicle, police said.
As the 62-year-old and the driver of the disabled truck were exchanging information, the 62-year-old was struck by a 2014 Toyota Rav4 heading westbound toward Harrison, police said.
The driver of the Rav4, a Budd Lake resident who was heading home, was not charged with any violations or crimes.
The incident remains under investigation but so far it appears to be an accident, police said.
No other details were immediately available.
Family of dead person is currently being notified, police said.
The roadway was closed in both directions shortly after the fatal crash and reopened about 8:50 a.m.
