Traffic on Highway 9 was backed up for hours Friday afternoon after a crash between a box truck and garbage truck in south Snohomish County.
The driver of the box truck — a Bothell man, 48 — was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with what were considered life-threatening injuries.
A Monroe man, 46, was the driver of the garbage truck. He suffered what were believed to be minor injuries.
The collision occurred around 12:40 p.m. on the highway near 233rd Place SE, about a mile north of Woodinville, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Troopers believe the southbound box truck crossed the centerline and struck the garbage truck, which was stopped in a left turn lane, State Patrol Sgt. Mark Francis said.
